Boston residents are urged to utilize no-cost tax prep services

WHAT: The Boston Tax Help Coalition (BTHC) 2025 tax season kick off event urging residents to utilize free tax preparation offered by BTHC member organizations like ABCD, a founding member and partner, the City of Boston and other nonprofits, businesses and community organizations. Residents earning up to $67,000 in 2024, and who meet eligibility requirements can file federal and state taxes at 30 neighborhood tax sites across Boston including at 12 ABCD neighborhood sites. The BTHC began accepting appointments on Monday, January 27th. The application deadline is Thursday, April 17, 2025. The BTHC provides in-person assistance by appointment or via drop off. Interpretation is available in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Portuguese, French, Vietnamese, Mandarin and Cantonese.

WHY: A public-private partnership, the Boston Tax Help Coalition seeks to ensure the full participation of all Boston residents in the city’s economic vitality and future. Refunds from free tax preparation services bring millions of dollars into our communities and help empower underserved residents by providing IRS-certified tax preparers at easy to access sites in the neighborhoods. The BTHC connects residents to free, comprehensive financial and asset-building services to improve their economic well-being. ABCD and four other BTHC members will offer clients a free Financial Check-Up (FCU) – a light-touch credit advising session to help clients understand their current financial situation, including a review of their credit report and FICO score, a personalized one-year plan to help improve their credit and relevant service referrals.
