John P. McGahan serves in a Public Sector seat and represents Boston City Councilor Frank Baker. McGahan is the President/CEO of the Gavin Foundation. Since 1994 he has served in leadership positions throughout the organization, and was elected to his current position in 2008. Under his direction, it has become one of the most respected and trusted comprehensive addiction education, prevention, and treatment programs in greater Boston.
McGahan is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Certified Addiction and Domestic Violence Counselor. He is a member of Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker’s Opioid Working Group; Vice President of the Massachusetts Recovery Homes Collaborative; and is a member of South Boston Association of Non-Profits and the South Boston Hope & Recovery Coalition. McGahan has received numerous awards from local civic and labor organizations for his dedication to providing and improving access to quality substance abuse treatment to those in need.
McGahan joined the ABCD Board of Directors in 2007, and he is a member the ABCD Executive Committee as former Board Chair from 2014-2017. He currently serves on the ABCD Neighborhood Programs/Planning & Evaluation (NPPE) Committee.
