2022 is ABCD’s 60th anniversary, our diamond jubilee!

Launched in 1962 as a demonstration project, ABCD was designated as Boston’s official antipoverty agency with the passage of the Economic Opportunity Act in 1964. Since then, we have evolved and expanded, providing vital assistance and empowering those who have been denied access to resources and opportunity.

The diamond is a fitting metaphor not only for ABCD’s spirit and purpose, but for the community heroes we will honor. Just as it takes intense heat and extreme pressure to form a diamond, our heroes can take the heat, and they personify grace under pressure.

We will also pay tribute to ABCD President/CEO John J. Drew, who retires after a storied 51-year career with the organization.
