ABCD expands philanthropic outreach – hires Annie Garmey as vice president of development

(Boston, MA) – Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) is pleased to announce the hiring of  Annie Garmey as vice president of development, a newly created senior leadership position– marking an important step in the organization’s broader philanthropic outreach and long-term resource development strategy.

“Annie brings exactly the strategic resource development leadership ABCD needs as we broaden our philanthropic reach, and invite more partners to invest in our mission,” said Sharon Scott-Chandler, ABCD President and CEO. “This  new role reflects our commitment to diversifying revenue, building deeper relationships with donors, funders, corporations and community partners who share our belief in opportunity, equity and economic mobility.”

In her new role, Annie will lead the organization’s comprehensive fundraising strategy, working to strengthen individual giving, corporate partnerships, foundation support, special events and other revenue opportunities that advance ABCD’s mission. She will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, senior leadership, program teams and external partners to deepen donor engagement, promote a culture of philanthropy, and support ABCD’s long-term sustainability and impact.

Before joining ABCD, Annie served as chief advancement officer for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts – one of the largest Girl Scout councils in the country, serving more than 18,000 Girl Scouts and 11,000 volunteers and adult members. In that role, she helped redesign the organization’s fundraising model, built a balanced portfolio across individual giving, government funding, corporate partnerships and foundations, and helped secure an AmeriCorps grant of more than $1 million over three years.

Prior to that, as chief development officer at YW Boston– the first YWCA in the nation, and a leader in the causes of eliminating racism and empowering women, Annie was responsible for fundraising and communications. Her accomplishments include securing multiple six-figure and multi-year gifts, exceeding an ambitious fundraising goal by more than 25 percent, doubling the number of individual donors, and helping lead a major strategic refocusing process.

Her background also includes senior development roles at Mass Insight Education and Hearth, Inc., where she advanced fundraising, communications, institutional partnerships and mission visibility for organizations focused on education equity and ending elder homelessness in Greater Boston.

Annie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from St. Lawrence University and has been active in professional and volunteer leadership through organizations including the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Women in Development, The Boston Club Nonprofit Committee, Partakers, Hearth Board of Visitors and other civic and nonprofit initiatives.
