This project is evaluating Action for Boston Community Development, Inc.’s (ABCD) longstanding WorkSmart youth employment program. The team is measuring overall impact, assessing the effectiveness of specific program features, exploring areas for improvement and growth, and communicating the value of the program. This work will help inform ABCD staff as well as key constituents, including youth and their families, peer employer partners and intermediaries, and those making funding decisions (e.g., city leaders, federal agencies, and foundations). The project entails a 3 month mixed methods study involving both quantitative analysis of program data and administrative records as well as qualitative surveys, focus groups, and interviews with program staff and alumni to learn about their lived experiences. The team employs participatory evaluation methods to ensure youth who are served by the program are given voice in the project and shaping future programming.
