Rev. Dr. Florence King joined the board in 2016 and served with distinction representing State Representative Paul Donato of Malden. As an officer of the board, she also served on its Executive Committee and contributed as a member of the ABCD Elder Services Committee. We could always count on Rev. Dr. King to be an enthusiastic advocate and a positive presence at ABCD board meetings as well as at community events. She knew the importance of “showing up,” and she was the consummate board member.
She championed Rep. Donato and constituents’ needs and proudly represented ABCD when engaging with stakeholders. This was never more impactful than when she served on the ABCD Neighborhood Advisory Board when we began operating in Mystic Valley in 2015. She was inspiring and she was tireless!
Rev. Dr. King was a member of the clergy at American Baptist Churches USA. Previous posts included Congregation Pastor at Trinity Baptist Church in Arlington, Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church in Gloucester, and Affiliate Pastor at the First Baptist Church in Medford. She earned a Master of Divinity degree and a Doctor of Ministry degree in Theological Studies from Andover Newton Theological School in New Haven, Connecticut.
A beacon of light and a drum major for justice, she made each day brighter and each life she touched more hopeful. She will be deeply missed.
