Urgent Call to Action: Protect Critical Anti-Poverty Programs!

Urge Congress to Protect Critical Anti-Poverty Programs! For over 60 years, Action for Boston Community Development, Inc. (ABCD) has been at the forefront of fighting poverty and empowering underserved communities throughout Greater Boston. From early childhood education and job training to food security and housing assistance, ABCD provides life-changing services to over 100,000 individuals and families each year—meeting urgent local needs with lasting impact.

Our work is powered by federal Community Services Block Grants (CSBG) and other vital funding streams that enable community action agencies like ABCD to address poverty at the local level. These funds fuel programs that reduce homelessness, prepare youth for the workforce, help seniors age with dignity, and equip families with tools to achieve economic stability. As one of the largest nonprofit human services agencies in New England, ABCD is a trusted partner in ensuring access for all.

Now, proposed federal budget cuts and structural changes threaten the very programs that communities depend on. These decisions risk undermining frontline services, reducing local control, and weakening the ability of agencies like ABCD to respond nimbly to community needs—especially in moments of crisis, such as natural disasters, economic downturns, or public health emergencies. At a time when families are grappling with rising costs, a shortage of affordable housing, and widening opportunity gaps, cutting funding for proven programs is a step in the wrong direction.

Community action is not bureaucracy—it’s a lifeline. We need your voice. Tell your Members of Congress that funding for ABCD and Community Action programs must be protected. Our communities can’t afford to lose these essential services.
