Guillermo
“Guillermo has only just started volunteering with ABNOC from the Education First (EF) English immersion program located in Brighton. He helps in our food pantry. Making food bags for clients, helping clients who come in for appointments, and helping us to keep our food pantry organized. At the same time we are helping him to practice his English. We are extremely grateful to have him here each day, he is an absolute pleasure.”
– Elaina Schreckenberger, ABNOC Operations Manager
Isaac
“Isaac’s purposeful & thoughtful approach to engaging and supporting foster grandparents and older adults is what makes him shine. He has a genuine desire to learn from them and work alongside them.”
– Makieya Kamara, ABCD Elder Services & AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparents Program Director
Atticus
“Atticus has grown so much in his time with the Foster Grandparent Program. He has stepped out of his comfort zone by co-facilitating the tech trainings with Isaac and has excelled beyond measure. His caring, empathetic, and friendly demeanor allows our volunteers to feel his conversations and sessions are a safe place to learn, ask questions, and grow. Our elderly volunteers are always making it known how much they adore him and are so grateful for his time and endless patience.”
– Kristina Mason, Foster Grandparent Program Lead Coordinator
Emmelyn
“Emme’s energetic and welcoming personality uplifts not only the office but also our volunteers. She is responsible for creating the lesson plans for all of our technology classes as well as co-facilitating sessions with Isaac for our Eastern Middlesex (EM) group in Medford. She is creative and diverse in the work she does, and this is shown by how many foster grandparents relate to her lessons, even though they all have different learning and skill levels. Although most of her time is dedicated to tech, she has still found time to make connections with volunteers who have been experiencing a bit of elder isolation. This has brought joy to our volunteers and makes them feel less alone. She has been just a wonderful addition to the EM FGP group.”
– Kristina Mason, Foster Grandparent Program Lead Coordinator
Vanessa
It has been a pleasure and great privilege to have Vanessa Espinosa, Finn Chalmers, and Ashley Delgado join us for the past two college semesters! Vanessa and Finn supported our housing counseling program and worked with low-income Boston residents, providing assistance with housing search to those in need. Ashley supported our rental and utility assistance programming. All were highly dependable and dedicated to any task that was given.
All three Boston College Pulse housing volunteers have been a tremendous help to our office and their constant feedback allows us to see our programs from a different perspective.
