Assisting Low-Income Individuals to Enter Expanding Job Sectors
The NextSTEPS program, administrated by ABCD's LearningWorks Department, is an entry level early education training program with the goal of addressing the skills gap for workers who have a a high school education but have less than a 4-year degree. NextSTEPS provides 15 weeks of classroom instruction along with a supervised internship so that, upon completion, participants are eligible to apply for EEC Teacher Certification. Two days a week are spent in the classroom, and two in each participant's field placement. Classes cover job readiness, Early Education skills and training, professional development, and money management. Participants are also assisted with job placement and provided a year of post-placement support. NextSTEPS is designed to help participants gain the education, skills and experience necessary to enter the Early Education field as competent, confident professionals.
Participants must be income eligible; have a high school diploma or GED but no college degree; and collegiate level English ability.
The fall 2014 session of NextSTEPS will begin on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, but participants can register and join up until two weeks later, Tuesday, October 7, 2014.
