Give Your Child a Head Start
ABCD Head Start and Children's Services is the largest early childhood education program in Boston. We have established ourselves as national experts in the field of early childhood development with a proven track record of serving low-income families.
Unlike traditional child care and other early education programs, Head Start focuses on preparing children for school, working to develop each child's social and learning skills through:
- High Quality Education
- Individualized Curriculum
- Family Case Management
- Disability Services and Support
- Mental Health Services for Children and Families
- Meal Plans
- Health Screenings (Including Dental, Vision and Hearing)
Who is Eligible for Head Start?
Head Start offers free services to families who reside in Boston, Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield or Winchester who meet federal low-income guidelines. Families who receive public assistance or other benefits may also be eligible. Those who are not eligible for free services may qualify to enroll for a small fee.
Head Start Children must be at least three years old as of September 1, 2015.
Early Head Start provides services for pregnant women, babies, and toddlers up to three years old.
How Do I Apply?
Visit or call your neighborhood Head Start site today to make an appointment with a family case manager. Bring the following to the appointment:
- Your child's birth certificate or proof of birth
- Household income verification
- Two proofs of City of Boston residency.
There are other Head Start programs throughout the state also funded by the federal government with similar rules and eligibility.
