G.A.T.E.

A breakthrough education & training program, ABCD’s G.A.T.E. program -- Generations Advancing Together through Education -- helps you choose and pursue a career path in health care, financial services, or comprehensive office software skills while assisting with childcare.

From start to start

We’re with you from the start of the program to the start of your career.

You want a career, but the training and childcare you need are either unavailable or unaffordable. ABCD has a solution. Our G.A.T.E. program enables you, your child, and your potential employer to get what’s needed.

ABCD partners with YMCA Training Inc., Jewish Vocational Services, and the Asian American Civic Association to provide training for internships and jobs that are available today. G.A.T.E. helps parents like you, looking to pursue a career, while meeting the needs of employers seeking qualified job applicants.

We offer programs to become a Certified Nursing Assistant or Pharmacy Technician, in addition to training programs for Computerized Office Skills, or Banking and Finance.

Having a child won’t be a reason for not getting the skills you need. ABCD also works with Child Care Choices of Boston to find childcare while you’re in training. Eligible participants receive support services to help with training and/or affordable childcare.

ABCD case managers will assess your needs and then help you navigate our many
work and family related resources.

Who Qualifies?

Boston residents, 18 and older, who are parents, foster parents or legal guardians, may be eligible. An applicant’s child must be 13 or younger but can be older if the child has special needs.

Except for the Certified Nursing Assistant program, all applicants are required to have a high school diploma or GED/HiSet. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. Participants who are part of the “New Roots” program must have an advanced degree or professional experience in their career field while they lived in their native country.
